So does your fake LM2575 have any kind of labelling at all? Any chance it’s a second hand reclaimed/recycled one, maybe with older tolerances?

I’d be curious whether the “free” SMD resistor values fall within stated tolerances any better/worse than the name brand ones, or whether there’s any discernable difference at all apart from price.

Great blog by the way, really enjoying your perspective.

hey georg there’s some overlap for some products but we think both companies are doing things in different ways and different styles always good to have choices out there!

It’s Sparkfun, not Adafruit where the article appeared. Funny, how this apparent Freudian slip suggests how interchangably we think of the two. They are both selling electronics parts, both regularly promote their new products in weekly video installments, both have a blog. One or the other, doesn’t really matter, does it? They are pretty much the same.

The self-importance of those ebike riders gives me the shits. I’m so tempted to put a piezo screamer on the end of a stick, and beep them right back. Turn about is fair play! I’ve also thought about a little rope throwing gadget which shoots some plastic rope into the spokes of their wheel. That would slow them down…

Ah Shenzhen. And split pants. One day I was on the bus, and someone’s little kid did a shit on the carpet floor of the bus. Watching the ticket lady trying to scrub shit out of carpet with her little broom, with the bus in motion, was surreal. Hey, what can you do? This is China!

Spring is mold season. My theory is that the buildings are still cold from winter, but there’s all this highly humid air blowing in from the South China Sea. This leads to condensation on every stone/concrete surface. As a result, the floors are often awash. When I asked for a place with running water, I didn’t expect it to be on the floors of my living room!

You design is really cool!
I had the idea of a large digit display last week, when I read about the Canadian student demonstration and the stupid law their governement passed to prevent gatherings of more than 49 people (I think it was 49, but I’m not super sure). Anyway, I watched a video about how the demonstrators shoud organize and how gather into groups of less than 50 people. Having a big display board you could
show up you head, with the number of people in the group, would be great and ease the organisation. I went on eBay to look for “cheap digit display” but I didn’t find anything below $100.
That’s just an idea, but there’s definitely a room for a ‘not too
expensive’ panel like yours!

I stumbled upon your blog from hackaday.com and am just reading the blog from the start. As a computer engineer who has traveled a bit in China I am curious to learn about the engineering industry there. Especially how it works as a foreigner. Good luck with your product.. this sounds very exciting!
